The Host
This book is amazing. Admittedly, it took me a couple of times after starting it to actually get past the first few pages, feeling completely lost and having no idea what she was talking about. But once I sat down and really convinced myself to keep going, I couldn’t put it down. After finishing it, I of course had to start all over again knowing I would understand it much better after reading it through, and it was even better. I’ve since read it 3 more times and am currently working on the 5th. Basically, the story line starts with the “souls” (aliens) already successful in their taking over of the world, and trying to seek out the last few remaining humans hiding out. They are tiny creatures that are inserted into the back of the neck of a human and they pretty much take over their body, thoughts, and memories. Then it goes through the inner turmoil of one Soul in particular that can’t seem to completely block out her previous humans thoughts, and ends up caring for her human family. There is so much impressive creative detail. Stephanie Meyer has really outdone herself with this one. I cannot wait until the movie comes out. I just hope it stays true to the story. Nothing frustrates me more than a completely turned around story line that’s supposed to be based on a novel.
